What This Layer Does
The IoT & Edge Intelligence layer is the nervous system of IWMS. Distributed sensor nodes placed at key network points continuously measure water quantity and quality parameters. Each node has an embedded Edge Compute module that processes sensor data locally, making millisecond-level decisions without waiting for cloud round-trips. Data is then synchronized to AWS in near real time over 4G/5G networks with SIM failover.

Flow Sensors
Electromagnetic and ultrasonic flow meters measure volumetric flow in L/s with Β±0.5% accuracy. Bidirectional measurement detects reverse flow and NRW anomalies.
Pressure Sensors
Piezoelectric pressure transducers at every DMA boundary and critical node. Pressure anomalies trigger instant NRW alerts before pipe bursts.
Water Quality
Multi-parameter probes measure pH (Β±0.02), TDS (Β±1%), and Turbidity (Β±2 NTU) continuously. Quality threshold breaches auto-trigger supply isolation.
Edge Computing
Embedded ARM processors run anomaly detection algorithms locally. Emergency shut-off commands execute in under 100ms without cloud dependency.
4G/5G Connectivity
Industrial 4G/5G modems with SIM failover ensure continuous data uplink. Local buffer stores up to 72 hours of data during connectivity loss.
Solar Power Option
Solar-powered sensor nodes with battery backup enable deployment in remote borewells, canal headworks, and rural distribution points.
